Durable Labels for Marine & Watercraft

In a world where labels, signs, and tags are everywhere – do we really take the time to read them? Labels may seem repetitive, or unimportant; however, their value could save a life.

LEM Products, a Trident company, specializes in Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) labels, from nameplates for machinery to all-weather decals for outdoor signage.

In this blog, we’re going to take a closer look at another category of OEM labels: marine labels. Marine labels come in a multitude of shapes, styles, and sizes and they provide vital information for boaters and marine-based businesses.

What is the purpose of OEM marine labels?

  • Identification:  Boat’s make, model, and serial number identification
  • Compliance: Capacity, weight limits, and other mandatory information.
  • Safety: Warnings and instructions regarding safe boat operation.
  • Information: Detailing specifications on the boat’s equipment, such as the engine, motor, and generators

How often should OEM labels be replaced?

Labels can naturally wear down or fade due to harsh weather environments. If any of the OEM labels on your boat are missing, damaged, or faded, it is important to replace them as soon as possible.

LEM is the supplier of choice for global pleasure boat manufacturers, commercial trade vessels, military craft, cruise ships, and pontoon boats.

At LEM, we provide permanent outdoor labels for variable surface conditions and textures. From smooth to embossed, these products have been tested for safety or emissions applications to provide the highest level of durability and performance. Our adhesive meets the long-term applicable boating standards, including ANSI Z535.4 (the uniform national standard for product warnings), and our engineering department is familiar with Coast Guard safety laws and requirements, as well as ABYC T5.

The graphics on LEM’s marine labels are protected by a UV durable wear layer, keeping them visible and bright for years.  The adhesive meets the requirements of marine long-term applications.  It offers temperature resistance to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celcius) as well as excellent solvent resistance.  Peel adhesion values are outstanding on metals and high surface energy (HSE) plastics and adhere to rough, textured, or embossed surfaces.

LEM also provides metal capacity plates that display the legal weight capacities for boating including passengers, fuel, and cargo.   These metal plates also display the boating manufacturer, style model number, and size.  The US Coast Guard requires these plates on monohull boats under 20 feet in length.

LEM’s marine labels cover a wide range of warnings, cautions and labeling requirements for controls and components. Some examples include warnings about carbon monoxide inhalation, cooking appliance safety procedures, warnings against improper discharge of oil and fuels, and mayday procedures.

Safety marine labels are manufactured for every inch, device, control, and procedure to maintain safety at sea.
